Dylan Thompson

Canon Curator’s Choice Award

This work considers the natural world and our interaction with it. “Where the Forest Meets the Road” is derived from composite photography and aligns fragmented images in order to create a new, hyperreal image. Subtle repetitions or anomalies can be found as a result of the artist’s layering of images, inviting the viewer to question the truth and reality of the landscape. In “Oblivion”, the vastness and isolation of Canada has been represented by imposing white walls. Obscuring the physical world in this way is meant to reflect modern society’s stunted relationship with nature through the advent of technology.
